Our Goal & Philosophy [Return TOP]
At Building Blocks, we are committed to providing you and your children with top-quality pediatric care. We do this by knowing our stuff, educating our patients, and forming a strong personal relation with our patients.

Our office prides itself on providing the best pediatric care available. We do this in three main ways:

  1. We have a great understanding of the field of pediatrics and strive to stay up-to-date with advances. We handle many medical problems ourselves, but also have a strong relationship with Children's Hospital so, if needed, specialists are just a phone call away.
  2. Another way we provide top quality care is through EDUCATION. We want our patients and their parents to understand their illness (be it asthma, an ear infection, or a cold) and treatment (be it antibiotics or not). By understanding, we enable you to take a more active role in your child's care and we can provide better care.
  3. Lastly, we strive to foster a personal relationship with all of our patients and their families. By doing this, we develop strong relationships which allows us to work together as partners in your children's care. In order to do this, we work hard to have you see your regular doctor as often as possible at your visits.

  Subspecialty Treatments [Return TOP]
Our practice provides general pediatric care from birth through adolescence including check-ups and preventive care as well as illness and injuries.

Sports Physicals
We perform preparticipation physicals for sports as needed by schools and other organizations. These exams allow us to screen for problems that may arise during sports and also give us the opportunity to talk to adolescents about a wide range of health topics.

Asthma
We have a special program for helping our young patient's and their families to deal with this chronic illness. Our program has a strong focus on education and early identification of problems.

Immunization promotion
From crib to college, there are many infectious diseases that can be prevented through the use of vaccines. Our goals is to keep children well and we do this in part by being advocates of childhood immunizations.

Injury prevention/safety
We participate in TIPP, The Injury Prevention Program, through the American Academy of Pediatrics to help parents keep their children safe. We focus on age-specific ways to do this at each well-child check-up.

Pediatric Education
Our office is actively involved in education of medical students and resident physicians. As such, you may encounter a physician-in-training during a visit to our office. You will always be asked permission to have these persons present. In addition to providing an educational setting for these trainees, it also allows our doctors the opportunity to stay up to date with the most recent medical advances. See link of the left "Our Resident Physicians" to see some of the residents who work with us regularly.

General Pediatrics
Our practice provides general pediatric care from birth through adolescence including check-ups and preventive care as well as illness and injuries.

Preventive Care
Including but not limited to well child check-ups, sports physicals, immunizations, and anticipatory guidance for all ages.

Adolescent Medicine
We provide care for preteens and teens including, but not limited to sports physicals, gynecology, screening for substance abuse, depression, learning difficulties, etc.

  Asthma Program   [Return TOP]
Building Blocks Pediatrics has embarked on a state of the art asthma education program. This program is especially designed for you and your child.

We are excited to introduce Barb Rushley. Barb is a registered respiratory therapist with 18 years of experience working with asthma education and asthma management. She will work with you, your child, and your pediatrician to best manage your child's asthma and empower you to deal with this illness. The program has a strong emphasis on asthma education: what asthma is, how to recognize it's signs, how the medicines work and how to use them.

Please call our office if you would like to learn more about this program or to schedule an appointment.

Staff & Resident Physicians  [Return TOP]

  • Building Blocks Pediatrics wouldn't be complete without our knowledgeable and helpful staff.  Our clinical staff is made up of all registered nurses who love working with children. They will get you settled into an exam room and perform tests such as hearing and vision screens, throat swabs, and finger sticks. In addition to direct contact, a big part of our clinical staff's responsibility is giving telephone advise on any and all areas of pediatrics.

  • Our office is actively involved in education of medical students and resident physicians. As such, you may encounter a physician-in-training during a visit to our office. You will always be asked permission to have these persons present. In addition to providing an educational setting for these trainees, it also allows our doctors the opportunity to stay up to date with the most recent medical advances.
