Appointments & Referrals
Our practice is currently accepting new patients. We welcome patients on most insurance plans.
Patients are scheduled by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling during our office hours. It is helpful to schedule check-up appointments 2-3 months in advance. We will make every effort to arrange appointment times that are convenient for your busy schedule. If your child is ill and you wish to have him/her seen that day, it is best to call early in the morning so that we may accommodate your scheduling needs.
Your appointment is reserved exclusively for you. We ask that you arrive for your appointment 10-15 minutes early so there is time to park and check-in with our receptionist. Patients arriving late for appointments may be asked to reschedule, so that the remainder of the day’s patients can be seen on time. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give at least 24 hours notice so that another patient may be given that appointment time. You may be billed a “no show” fee for appointments that are not cancelled in a timely manner.

Subspecialty Treatments & Programs
Our practice provides general pediatric care from birth through adolescence including check-ups and preventive care as well as illness and injuries.
Sports Physicals
We perform preparticipation physicals for sports as needed by schools and other organizations. These exams allow us to screen for problems that may arise during sports and also give us the opportunity to talk to adolescents about a wide range of health topics.
Asthma
Building Blocks Pediatrics has a state of the art asthma education program for helping our young patient's and their families to deal with this chronic illness. This program has a strong focus on education and early identification of problems and is especially designed for you and your child.
Barb Rushley is a registered respiratory therapist with 18 years of experience working with asthma education and asthma management. She will work with you, your child, and your pediatrician to best manage your child's asthma and empower you to deal with this illness.
Please call our office if you would like to learn more about this program or to schedule an appointment.
Immunization promotion
From crib to college, there are many infectious diseases that can be prevented through the use of vaccines. Our goal is to keep children well and we do this in part by being advocates of childhood immunizations. Please read our immunization policy in the Parent Manual Link below.
Injury prevention/safety
We participate in TIPP, The Injury Prevention Program, through the American Academy of Pediatrics to help parents keep their children safe. We focus on age-specific ways to do this at each well-child check-up.
Pediatric Education
Our office is actively involved in education of medical students and resident physicians. As such, you may encounter a physician-in-training during a visit to our office. You will always be asked permission to have these persons present. In addition to providing an educational setting, it also allows our doctors the opportunity to stay up to date with the most recent medical advances.
Adolescent Medicine
We provide care for preteens and teens including, but not limited to sports physicals, gynecology, screening for substance abuse, depression, learning difficulties, etc.

Billing & Insurance
As a part of Central Ohio Primary Care, all billing is handled by the central COPC office. Billing and insurance questions should be directed to (614) 326-2672.
Our office is a health care provider for most major health plans. When you call to schedule an appointment, please verify that we are participants in your plan.
Please bring your current insurance card with you to every visit. Our office will file your insurance claim if we are approved providers of your insurance plan. In the absence of a current insurance card, you will be asked to pay in full at the office and file with your insurance company yourself.
Our fees are standardized and are based upon time spent and severity and complexity of the visit. Payment is due when services are rendered unless other arrangements have been made in advance. All co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles are collected at the time of service. For your convenience, we accept Visa and MasterCard.

Prescriptions & Refills
Please call during normal business hours for prescription refills. In general, we will not approve telephone refills for patients who have not had a complete physical examination within one year. Have the following information available when calling the office: your child’s name, the name of the drug, the dosage of the prescription, and the pharmacy name, address and telephone number. Please allow 24 hours for the prescription to be called in. We do not prescribe antibiotics over the telephone. We also do not prescribe controlled substances (such as narcotic pain medications or many behavioral medications) over the telephone.

Calls & Emails
If your child has a true emergency day or night (such as a seizure or major trauma), call 911.
Please call during office hours Monday through Friday to schedule appointments, to request prescription refills, or to ask brief medical questions. The phones tend to be busiest in the early morning, especially on Mondays and Fridays. For your convenience, you may wish to wait until mid-morning for issues that do not require immediate attention. When calling the office, please follow the telephone menus, as this will help us handle your call most efficiently.
We have nurses available by telephone to answer many of your questions. They are specifically trained to counsel you, following guidelines set by our physicians. They can help you with questions regarding well baby and child care. They can also advise you on the care of an ill child and help determine if your child needs to be seen by a physician.
For routine matters, please consult our Parent Manual prior to calling, as it provides useful information and can answer many common parent questions.

After Hours
If your child has a true emergency day or night (such as a seizure or major trauma), call 911.
We recognize that children do not always become ill or injured during regular office hours. We make ourselves available to you in the evenings, on weekends, and on holidays. One of our physicians is on call during these times. If your child has an urgent medical problem, call 434-5437 and follow the telephone menus. If asked to leave a message, you will receive a return call within 30 minutes. Please keep your phone line open for the physician to call you back during this time.
Please reserve these calls for sudden or serious problems that cannot wait until the following business day. This time is not for routine questions that can wait until regular office hours or questions that can be answered by consulting our parent manual or website. Calls for such matters may be billed a service fee.
On Saturdays, the physician on call will be in the office at 9:00 am to see patients who have an illness that is too severe to wait until Monday. Please call the office at 8:30am so that we may arrange a time to see your child that morning. Please do not use Saturday morning hours for your child’s chronic problems (e.g. behavior concerns, chronic headaches, recurrent abdominal pain, etc...).
Please remember that while we provide 24-hour coverage for our patients, we expect that calls made after hours will be for urgent problems only.

Patient Forms
Our Philosophy
At Building Blocks, we are committed to providing you and your children with top-quality pediatric care. We do this by knowing our stuff, educating our patients, and forming a strong personal relation with our patients. Our office prides itself on providing the best pediatric care available. We do this in three main ways:
• We have a great understanding of the field of pediatrics and stay up-to-date with advances. We handle many medical problems ourselves, but also have a strong relationship with Nationwide Children's Hospital so, if needed, specialists are just a phone call away.
• Another way we provide top quality care is through EDUCATION. We want our patients and their parents to understand their illness (be it asthma, an ear infection, or a cold) and treatment (be it antibiotics or not). By understanding, we enable you to take a more active role in your child's care and we can provide better care.
• Lastly, we strive to foster a personal relationship with all of our patients and their families. By doing this, we develop strong connections which allows us to work together as partners in your children's care. In order to do this, we work hard to have you see your regular doctor as often as possible at your visits.

Our Clinical Staff
Building Blocks Pediatrics wouldn't be complete without our knowledgeable and helpful staff. Our clinical staff is made up of registered nurses and medical assistants who love working with children. They will get you settled into an exam room and perform tests such as hearing and vision screens, throat swabs, and finger sticks. In addition to direct contact, a big part of our nurses’ responsibility is giving telephone advice on any and all areas of pediatrics.
